Nine days ago, Stef never would have thought she’d be standing at a rail during sunset with the Atlantic Ocean moving swiftly beneath her. The cruise had been more than a vacation, it was the catalyst for her next phase in life. Throughout the course of the week, every activity helped narrow the focus of her new mission. Massages made her think more carefully about physical intimacy. Time at the blackjack table about financial independence. The brief detour into the waterslide area forced her to choose a stance about children. And both riding horses in Grand Turk and snorkeling in Half Moon Cay reminded her that there were forces stronger than her own willpower, so she needed to be cautious and smart with her choices.

Every evening she would revise her marriage approach in her Notebook of Thoughts. Stef was initially surprised Timera and Gillian hadn’t mocked her, but she quickly came to the conclusion they were just happy to see her with a new outlook on life.

Even if that did mean she beat both of them at the lip sync battle.

“Care for a mojito?”

Stef looked to her right to see Lea holding her signature vacation cocktail. But this time she wasn’t in her aqua polo, she was in capri jeans and a white tank top. The change in apparel was definitely a step up. “Hi! And thank you,” Stef said when she took the offered drink. “I’m surprised to see you here. Do they rotate you in different areas of the ship?”

Lea’s brow pinched together. “I’m not quite sure what you mean.”

“You’re not in the Marley bar, but you brought me a drink.”

“Ah, I can see where that threw you off.” Lea turned and leaned her back against the railing. “Found her!” she said with a wave to someone.

Stef turned and saw Gillian and Timera waving back with large grins.

“You were looking for me?” Stef asked Lea.

“Well, you never came back to visit me, and I wanted to know how you liked the cruise.”

Stef stopped sipping her drink. “I had a blast. I owe my friends for nagging me to come along.”

“You weren’t going to?”

“No. My aunt passed away a month ago, and while she had health issues for over a year, it really shook me. I haven’t really been myself.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“Thank you. I’m still very sad she’s not in my life, but this trip has given me something more to live for other than work. I have a new goal.”

Lea nodded. “Does this have anything to do with that paper I brought you the first day?”

“It’s a much more intricate system now, but yes.” Stef was impressed that the drink Lea brought her was made exactly the way she liked it. Lea had a great memory to go along with her sexy, fun attitude. It really was a shame that she would be spending the entire year on the open sea. “How about you? Did you enjoy the cruise?”

Lea shook her head. “Everything was great until we got to Grand Turk.
